We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now Dane County

At the Junior League of Madison, we live in the moment. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most pressing needs. Our work is always evolving, and that keeps us on our toes, striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.

Right now, our primary focus is identifying the next unmet need in Dane County and outlining an impactful approach to improve or resolve it. The Junior League of Madison was originally established to help fill the gaps for organizations that needed physical volunteer support, founding financial support, and/or organizational planning.

Preparing a meal at Ronald McDonald House Madison

In the early 1990s, Junior League of Madison (Junior Service League at the time) became the confirmed volunteer group needed to bring a Ronald McDonald Charities House to Madison. Our members supported the project by recruiting and training volunteers, staffing the office, planning events, and many other foundational activities. Member Jeanne Giroux sat on the founding RMHC Board of Directors — exemplifying our vision of giving trained, volunteer leaders a seat at the table where community impact decisions are being made.

Today, we continue our volunteer support by providing and cooking a home-cooked dinner once a month. Members collaborate to plan the menu, buy ingredients and prepare the meal — giving the families of Ronald McDonald House of Madison a small taste of home during an unimaginably stressful time.

Creating inspiring bulletin boards for students at Cherokee Heights Middle School

Our Adopt-a-School partnership, lasting from 20162021, allowed members to support teachers, staff and students of Cherokee Middle School in a variety of ways. From welcoming students with chalk art, sprucing up classrooms and bathrooms, providing families with all of the ingredients needed to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner, and donating the funds needed to install a water system for the school’s community garden.

Organizing prom dresses at All Dressed Up

For 15 years, our signature event, All Dressed Up, provided area teens access to free prom dresses and accessories during a fun shopping event featuring a live DJ, make-up artists, photo booths and more.

As we celebrate our 35th anniversary and beyond, we are excited to enter new partnerships with Madison Reading Project and MyArts (see side bar announcing our major gifts!), partnerships that both honor our legacy and forge new paths for the future of our community.

From Kitchen Tours and Casino Nights to founding board members and funding, the Junior League of Madison is constantly changing and evolving — just like our community. Our goal is always to better the women and communities of Dane County.

We’re Transforming Dane County Women and Our Communities

No matter what we’re currently focusing on, the Junior League of Madison’s work centers around improving our local communities through effective action and leadership. We are working to identify the most pressing issues in our community right now, so that we can help local women take action to resolve it.

So far this year, we have revised our three-year strategic plan to focus on member engagement, community collaboration, and the development of trained volunteer leaders. We believe that our actions under these areas of focus will bring us closer to our vision where Junior League of Madison women are recognized and influential leaders who have a seat at any table where decisions are being made in the community.
