What is the Junior League of Madison?

JLM is a volunteer-led group of women who work together to support the Madison community, build leadership skills, and form strong connections.

Who can join?

Women who are 21 or older and live in Dane County or the surrounding area.

When can I join?

We accept new members twice a year in Fall and Spring.
Fall 2026 applications are open now.

How much time does it take?

Most new members spend a few hours each month on orientation, training, meetings, and service projects. You can be as involved as your schedule allows.

What is the New Member experience like?

You will join a cohort, meet other new members, attend orientation, take part in training sessions, and join service projects or events. It’s a guided start to help you feel connected and supported.

Are dues required?

Yes. New Member dues are paid after you submit your application.

The dues cover:
• The rest of this League year ($138 for full League year +$10 new member fee, or prorated)
• AJLI dues for the next League year

You can pay any time before Orientation or bring a check on Orientation day. Payment plans are also available.

What happens after I complete the New Member experience?

You become an Active Member and can join committees, take on leadership roles, attend more trainings, and get involved in community programs.

Do I need volunteer experience to join?

No. Many members are brand new to community work. We teach everything.

Do I need to know someone in JLM before joining?

No. Many women join without knowing anyone. The cohort model makes it easy to meet people.

Can I take on leadership roles?

Yes. JLM is a place to learn and grow. Members often serve as committee leads, event chairs, or eventually on the Board.

What if I’m new to Madison?

You are in good company. Many new members are new to the area and join JLM to meet people and get involved locally.

What support will I have as a new member?

A New Member Chair and your cohort will guide you through your first months. You’ll never have to figure things out alone.

What if I have a busy schedule?

Your involvement can flex around your life. We know members work, parent, study, or care for family. You can participate in ways that fit your time.
